Questions and Answers
Do you go by Jeff?
Absolutely not. Never. Except when someone calls me that. I prefer
"Jeffry," "JD," or "Jay." And there's always "Jade," which is short for "Jay Dee." Since I have
a nasty habit of answering any question I hear, whether it's addressed to me or not, you can probably
get away with using whatever name you like best.
Where did you get your musical training?
You didn't really listen to any of those
songs, did you? Or was that sarcasm?
What do you do for a living?
What kinds of books do you read?
Science fiction, fantasy, textbooks, books about language, and popular science mostly. Occasionally I dip into horror
and thriller/adventure, and every now and then will read a so-called best seller.
My favorite modern authors are Robert A. Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Isaac Asimov,
C.J. Cherryh, Douglas Adams, Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen Donaldson, and Orson Scott Card (and
many others).
My favorite neo-classical authors are Shakespeare and Goethe.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Stuff from the late 70's and early 80's mostly, but I also like some earlier rock, especially the
ballads. If I'm in the mood, baroque and classical are nice, but I'm much more a fan of keyboard
and orchestral work than choral music. Like most Americans my age, I'm too low-brow to enjoy opera,
and too high-brow to enjoy rap.
Every now and then, when I'm hanging with younger friends and listening to their music (stuff
from the mid-90's forward), I catch myself thinking what my father often said about my favorite
tunes: "That's not music, that's just noise."
Aw, Dad, I understand now. We were both wrong.
What webpage design software do you use?
A highly-underrated program that comes free with Windows called "Notepad."
It has many advanced features, including undo, search, load and save. Its
best feature is that it never inserts code that I don't type. Its worst
feature is its inability to mute the radio when the phone rings.
