Adoption Announcement After years (decades) of deliberation, I have decided to adopt a child. I have never been more excited, or more terrified, in my life. The period of time between signing a contract with an agency and actually getting one’s child is often referred to as being pregnant, I guess because adoptive parents have much the same feelings, anxieties, hopes, dreams, and worries as do biological parents. The wheels are in motion. I’ve been accepted by an agency, identified the country from which I will adopt, and begun the slaying of trees required to provide the mountain of paperwork to fill out. If all goes according to plan (unlikely, but possible), I’ll have to change personal pronouns from “I” to “we” sometime this spring. |
